About the Digital Persona U.are.U 4500
The U.are.U 4500 is a compact optical fingerprint reader from DigitalPersona, now part of HID Global. It captures single flat fingerprints at 500 dpi in 8-bit grayscale, encrypts image data before transfer, and rejects latent and counterfeit fingers. A silicone-coated window handles dry, moist, or rough skin, and capture fires automatically as soon as a finger lands. Years of SDK support have made it a de facto standard for logical access and in-application verification: point of sale and cashier override, banking and microfinance apps, time and attendance, and identity workflows built on the DigitalPersona SDKs for Windows, Linux, and Android. It is a verification reader without FBI certification, so it belongs in access and login roles rather than applicant fingerprinting. We supply it new by quote and test every unit before it ships.
